# Making complex freight logistics easier to navigate

TRIS helps freight forwarders manage goods moving worldwide. I supported Intris in making this complex logistics application more usable and mobile-oriented during its Oracle-based rewrite.

**Product Type:** Freight forwarding software
**Industry:** Logistics & transport
**Timeframe:** 2015–2017
**Role:** Product strategy, UX & UI design

**Scope:** User research & stakeholder alignment, Product strategy & information architecture, Axure prototyping, Oracle Alta UI alignment, A/B testing with key users, UI assets & development support

## The challenge.

Freight software spans transport modes, customs, finance and country-specific requirements. Its complexity can overwhelm newcomers, while established users may resist changes to familiar workflows.

## The key decision.

I worked with product owners to understand users and prioritise features. Axure prototypes followed Oracle Alta UI principles and were reviewed early with business teams, developers and Oracle specialists for feasibility.

## The rejected option & why.

A new UI framework alone could not resolve the application’s structural complexity. The work also addressed workflows and feature priorities through research and iterative prototyping.

## The outcome.

Over three years, stakeholders aligned around the changes. An external group of around ten transport-sector users tested prototypes, and feedback informed designs used in two-week development sprints.

## The final verdict.

Understanding logistics operations was essential to useful design decisions. Iterative prototypes connected user feedback, technical constraints and implementation, with design assets supporting development.
